DUE MAY 16TH
I have decided that the extra credit assignments should be more demanding since it will raise your final average for the fourth nine weeks two points. This means if you have a 79 in Science in your 4th nine weeks, you will have an 81. This means a lot to some students. Grades are online at Headmaster, so you are more than welcome to see what your child’s grades are and what subject project you may want to complete. If it is not completed correctly, your child may only receive 1 point or no points, so please make sure to follow the directions.
You have the choice to complete ONE project for extra credit.
=====================================================================================
HISTORY
Students will read William Wadsworth Longfellow's poem titled, "Paul Revere's Ride" to learn more about the famous ride on April 18, 1775. Afterward, students should create a three-dimensional diorama map on cardboard depicting Paul Revere's ride, which started in Lexington and ended in Charlestown by the Mystic River. Students will paint the roads and add landmarks, such as the Hancock-Clark House. For example, the river should be painted blue and students can glue on model grass and trees. You can find the poem online. BE CREATIVE!! You will present your diorama to the class.
=====================================================================================
SCIENCE
Since we did not have time to get to chapter 6 in our science book, you will need to complete the science experiment on page 169 and the scientific method with a display for extra credit. You will conduct an experiment called Competing Candles.
You do not have to turn in a log book or research paper with your scientific method. I am more interested in the display. I am looking for creativity, organization, neatness, the display having all scientific procedures, and student’s own work. You will present your display to the class.

MATH
I found one I liked online at https://sites.google.com/a/trinityisd.net/5th-grade-math/fraction-project
==============================================================
READING
Research literary elements/terms and create a way to teach the class 10 literary
elements that are appropriate for 5th graders by explaining their meanings, purposes, giving examples, drawing
pictures when appropriate so that they will learn them. It will need to be 10 NEW terms that we do not know.
Example: Alliteration The repeating of consonant sounds.
The repetition can be put side by side (for example,"sleepy sun sank slowly over the sea" ).
You will then give the class a test on the material you shared. You will be the teacher. Did you present it in a
way that all understood and can remember? Was your presentation visual? Creative? Will they pass the test?
This will let me know how well you presented the information. The way that you test them is up to you.
JUST BE CREATIVE IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
=======================================================
LANGUAGE ARTS
Since you are doing your library research report on a famous person, I decided to put this project with
it. Find a shoe box and construct a diorama of a part of the person’s life you think is important.
For example, if your person was an inventor then have your diorama represent that invention. Write a
small description of what your part is about so that the class will understand it.
